For a healthy breath, we need a healthy nose. The nose is a very effective organ in terms of aesthetic understanding that directly reflects the expression, posture and character of the person.

A healthy nose is of great importance for both respiration and the continuation of healthy life. However, in some people, deviations in the nose both prevent healthy breathing and cause various diseases such as pharyngitis attacks and throat infection.

Septoplasty operation is performed to correct the deviation problem. Septoplasty is an operation that is performed to solve the deviation problem in the nose and does not require intervention outside the nose. However, if the tip of the nose is downward, the nose is large compared to the face, the bones are wide or there is a nasel hump, it is possible to intervene in such aesthetic issues at the request of the person.
At this point, septoplasty is the name given to the intervention in the nose, while the aesthetic correction of the nose is called "rhinoplasty".

The concept we call septorhinoplasty is formed at this point and appears as the preferred nose surgery of many people. This operation, which is widely used today, is preferred by people who want to have an aesthetic appearance and a healthy nose by intervening both inside and outside of the nose.

In terms of tampons that many people are afraid of after surgery, new generation silicone tampons brought by today's technology are now used. In this way, it is ensured that the person can breathe with the tampons used. After 5 days, the silicone tampons inside the nose are removed. During the next 5 days, there is thermo plastic plaster on the nose, and after a week, the person can easily socialize.

After the surgery, people are usually discharged after 1 day of hospitalization. In the following process, 1. , 3. , 6. and the 12th Regular checks continue for months and the patient is monitored with follow-up.

Who Can Undergo Rhinoplasty?

Anyone who wants to have a nose surgery is a candidate for rhinoplasty. In addition, if the deformity in the nose prevents healthy breathing even though the patient does not have aesthetic concerns, rhinoplasty can be performed for functional gain.

If a patient who is scheduled for nose surgery due to bone curvature, which we call septum deviation that prevents breathing through the nose, has aesthetic concerns, it would be appropriate to perform the operation in the same session. Thus, both the patient will have less trouble and the bone and cartilage removed from the nose during the operation can be used as a filling and support material in rhinoplasty.
Although the most common patient group is between the ages of 18-40, we can say that there is no upper limit anymore. Rhinoplasty can also be performed in the 50s and 60s if the general condition of the patient is appropriate.

How Is Preoperative Preparation Performed?

First of all, the patient should be examined. What the patient expects from the surgery and the possible shape change of the physician should be discussed in the preoperative period.
Nose photographs of the patient should be taken before the surgery. This is important for both preoperative planning and comparison of previous and subsequent images.
It should be questioned whether the patient has an existing systemic disease or not. Afterwards, the patient should be evaluated by an anesthesiologist.

Should the surgery be performed under local anesthesia or general anesthesia?

It can be done with local anesthesia or general anesthesia. It is mostly the general anesthesia of choice.

How Long Does The Surgery Take?

It is an average of 1.5 - 2 hours operation. It may also last longer than the existing deformity in the nose.

What kind of process awaits the patient after the surgery?

When the patient wakes up after the surgery, silicone tampons in the nose and splint outside the nose. There are temporary swellings and bruises around the eyes of the patient.

Post Operation Intranasal tampons are taken daily. In the first week, the swelling decreases. Ice should be applied to the face on the first day to reduce swelling and bruising.

On the 1st day of the surgery, The patient's sutures and the splint outside the nose are removed during the week.

What should the patient pay attention to during this process?

Especially in the first 6 months, it is necessary to wear glasses and avoid sunbathing. It is important to protect the nose from blows for the first year and to follow up with regular checks.
