If the part of the breast tissue that is specialized for producing milk develops in male physiology, this may cause emotional discomfort in men and also impair self-confidence.
Who Has Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia can develop at any age; however, it is more common in infants, adolescents, and older men.
Although it does not lead to a clinical condition that requires medical treatment, it can negatively affect the quality of life psychologically and socially, causing an undesirable appearance in patients. For this reason, various medical treatments and surgical methods have been developed to eliminate gynecomastia.

What Are The Causes of Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia usually occurs as a result of hormonal imbalance. Gynecomastia occurs when the testosterone hormone decreases in men and the estrogen hormone increases more than necessary. Medications used other than hormonal imbalances may cause gynecomastia in herbal products or various diseases.

Some corticosteroids, antibiotics, hormone treatments, heart disease drugs, HIV treatment drugs, antidepressants, ulcer drugs or psychiatric drugs containing amphetamines, alcohol consumption, protein powders use can lead to gynecomastia as a side effect.

What Is False Gynecomastia?

In the case of false gynecomastia, there is only excessive accumulation of adipose tissue in the breast and it is usually seen in obese people. These people also have localized fat deposits in other parts of the body.
In real gynecomastia cases, some increase is definitely observed in the milk glands.

In cases of excess real gynecomastia in the breast area, enlarged milk glands are felt as a mass with rubber consistency. In cases of pseudo-gynecomastia, the mass is felt as a more homogeneous, diffuse and soft tissue. In breast ultrasonography, only fat tissue increase is detected.
In the treatment of pseudo-gynecomastia, the "liposuction" method, that is, the fat removal method with the help of a cannula, is applied to a certain extent.

How Is Surgical Treatment Performed in Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia surgery reduces breast size in men, flattens and beautifies the chest lines.

In cases of high grade gynecomastia, the weight of excess breast tissue can be surgically improved and excess skin reduced if the breasts sag.

Plastic surgery to correct gynecomastia is technically called reduction mammoplasty.
