Posthetomy (Circumcision)

Posthetomy is the process of surgically cutting and removing the foreskin surrounding the tip of the penis in a certain shape and length and revealing the tip of the penis.

The appropriate age range for circumcision is 0-2 years and after 7 years. Since children between the ages of 2-7 have a period of sexual development, circumcision is not recommended much in this age range.

What Are The Health Benefits of Circumcision?

Cleaning and hygiene of the penis after circumcision is easier than normal.
Although the rate of urinary tract infection is low in men, it is more common in uncircumcised men than circumcised men.
In the uncircumcised penis, a narrowing problem called phimosis can be seen at the tip of the penis. Due to this stenosis, the foreskin cannot be withdrawn sufficiently, and inflammation of the penis head is more common.
Penile cancer is a rare clinical case that is less common in men with circumcision. Penile cancer is more common in uncircumcised men. In addition, circumcised men have a lower rate of cervical cancer in their sexual partners.
As a better level of hygiene, circumcision makes easier to wash the penis. Circumcision makes it easier to wash the penis. However, men with uncircumcised penises are advised to wash the bottom of the foreskin regularly.
Reduction in the risk of urinary tract infection. The risk of urinary tract infection in men is low, but these infections are more common in uncircumcised men. Severe infections early in life can lead to kidney problems later in life.
Circumcised men have a lower risk of getting some sexually transmitted infections, including HIV. Still, safe sexual practices are essential.

How Is Circumcision Performed?

The most common, reliable, and least side effects method is the surgical method. The complete recovery of the penis after circumcision usually takes between 3-7 days.
The tip of the penis may be sore after circumcision, or the penis may appear red, swollen, shape. You may also notice a small amount of yellow fluid at the tip of the penis. All these problems disappear within an average of 1 week.

Surgical Method

The surgical method is performed by surgically cutting the foreskin and stitching the tips together. Since aesthetic and absorbable sutures are used here, it is not necessary to take a dressing or suture afterwards.
In circumcision procedures performed with surgical intervention, the penis continues to grow and develop normally in advanced ages since the foreskin is removed as much as necessary.

Sleeping Circumcision

The procedure is performed under local and sedoanalgesia. When it is performed under local anesthesia, only the penis area is anesthetized. The child is in awake position. When the procedure is performed under sedoanalgesia, the child is asleep and takes the risks of anesthesia.

In sleep circumcision; again, only the penis area is anesthetized. Circumcision is performed after the child goes to his/her natural sleep. Thus, he/she does not take the risks of anesthesia and does not experience any trauma in the child.
